This is something Serbia should be ashamed of.

What other country in the world must one NEVER take a taxi outside the airport or train station?

80% of Belgrade taxis are scum. They hear you speaking a foreign language or Serbian with an accent and there's a good chance that you'll get the fast-meter treatment. Once, when challenging a driver on the circuitous route he took me on, he got out of the car, assaulted me and spat on me.

The taxi situation in Belgrade is awful and something that put the city into a 'third world' category.

Belgrade: if you fancy yourself a European city, correct this abysmal taxi situation.
