Some Impressions Of Serbia
I like the food - I haven’t eaten a single bit of processed food other than a little salami at Bane’s house - and have enjoyed the fresh fruit: peaches, nectarines, watermelon and figs. I especially like the cheeses: mladi sir, kosi (goat’s cheese) and the wonderful kajmak. I also like the white bread and djevreci (bagels), baked every day. I like the habit of eating a proper lunch and then something light in the evenings, which are spent outdoors in the parks.
I can understand why Nena likes markets: most food shopping is done at the markets with their adjoining mlekare (dairies), pekara (bakeries) and mesare (butchers).
I think the Serbian young girls are very beautiful and dress very femininely and individually - no little tailored black suits but rather frills and floars in gauzy fabrics. Most women wear high-heeled sandals - contemptuous of the cobblestones.
I think Belgrade is a lovely city: easy to get around, great cafes, restaurants, monuments and friendly people. A great place to holiday and explore a different culture.
