Earlier this year, we wrote about fashion brands in Belgrade. We pointed out that the Usce (oosh-chay) shopping center and the Delta City mall in Belgrade brought a striking array of international retail names to the Serbian market, including Massimo Dutti, Mexx, Mango, Morgan, Intimissimi, Sephora, Woman’ Secret, Benetton, Gant, Mandarina Duck, Hugo Boss, D&G, Armani, Iceberg, GF Ferre, Galliano, and Versace.
Now it seems that more and more people are realizing that Belgrade is a perfect city for shopping. I recently came across a story from the Richardson Family, an American family of five from Tennessee living in Belgrade. Erin Richarson has an interesting post on her blog about shopping in Belgrade.”So, who would’ve ever imagined that Belgrade, of all places, would have some of the best shopping opportunities I’ve ever encountered? Starting with the fancy, the city has two very upscale shopping malls, with all the posh clothing stores one could imagine (for my Nashville friends, both malls are several steps up from Green Hills in terms of both the quality of shops and the asthetics of the building.”
Then Richardson went on to say that “there are many, many other great spots for shopping in this city. Besides the upscale shopping malls, Belgrade, like many European cities, has a pedestrian walking street called Knez Mihailova that is jam-packed with stores, cafes, craft stalls and people.” Then she talked about “shopping experience that is a bit more ‘local’, noting that “there are so many small shops tucked into buildings all over this town that you literally could make it your full-time job to explore all of Belgrade’s small speciality stores.”
It’s worth a read. Belgrade is the perfect city to visit for a shopping vacation. And with all of Belgrade’s boutique shops, you’ll be getting to know some of the city’s best up-and-coming designers — possibly the next Versace.
