Do The Serbs Hate Americans?

Jayne Cravens writes: When I announced to a Girl Scout troop leader here in Canby, Oregon that I was going to Serbia, she said in a cautious manner, "Oh, really? They hate us there. It's not very safe" I asked her if she meant because of the NATO bombings years ago, or because of the USA stand regarding Kosovo. She ...

Pretty much every traveler has said the same thing, but just for the record, here's yet another traveler saying that Belgrade is one, if not the most friendly city in Europe. Monica Derksen, a Canadian spending a couple of months traveling through Europe, writes about Belgrade:
We found Belgrade to be the most friendly city we had been to so ...

Experience Serbian Food In Belgrade, Oh No! Milwaukee
Posted On Thursday, 24 Dec 2009 By Karl Haudbourg. Under Serbia, Serbian food Tags: Serbian food, Three Brothers restaurant
Just yesterday, we were pointing out how some Americans and Canadians were enjoying Serbian food... in Serbia. Apparently, you don't need a trans-Atlantic flight to discover Serbian cuisine. Two hungry graduate students from Chicago managed to find Three Brothers restaurant in Milwaukee, and what greeted them was wonderful hospitality and some of the world's finest Serbian food.
We ordered the cheese ...

Oh Look, Vegetarians Can Enjoy Serbian Food… And Meat

It never ceases to amaze me the number of vegetarians who like Serbian food. Back in October, we wrote about how Anna, a vegetarian, had one of the greatest, if not the best meal of her life in a Serbian restaurant. The latest example comes from Alex Waber, a Canadian photographer, who is visiting Serbia. And what do a Canadian ...

Alex is asking a good question. It's one that's been asked plenty of times before, of course, but it remains relevant: What makes Belgrade - Belgrade? He points out that Belgrade is not Rome or Paris, and notes that Belgrade has managed to maintain the old charm and glory of the place despite the tremendous modernization it has undergone. This ...

So, Wait, Is Belgrade ‘Good Or Bad’ For Americans?

Jim and Mary - Cleves, Ohio, United States - spent 15 days in Belgrade to adopt Milos, a 10 year old lad with Down syndrome. They put up a blog post talking about their feelings about Belgrade, good ones, and bad ones. Of course there are things they dislike in Belgrade but it seems they have had more positive experiences ...

There's a fascinating, and well sourced, article over at the Observer newspaper in the UK by the BBC's Mark Lowen, highlighting how Belgrade is welcoming, exciting and diverse. Lowen argues, convincingly, that Belgrade is a charming, thoroughly cosmopolitan, and a modern European city. Here's a snippet:
Forget the images of the war-torn 90s: today's Belgrade is welcoming, exciting and diverse. Spend ...

Yet Another Photo: Belgrade Is Dangerous
Posted On Thursday, 10 Dec 2009 By Karl Haudbourg. Under Belgrade, Is Serbia Safe?, Serbia Tags: Belgrade
A photo posted online by Bibi on a Yankee In Belgrade's blog shows a pair of robbers in action in Belgrade. The Photo tells the story: Belgrade is a dangerous city (take it with a grain of salt). One of the robbers, a salt shaker, had a gun and threatened the life of a pair of salt and pepper shakers. ...

What to see with only one day in Belgrade?
In my opinion, there are three must-sees in Belgrade. You simply cannot miss them if you're in Belgrade, even for only one day. Kalemegdan, St. Sava Temple and Skadarlija are the "holy trinity" of the must-see in Belgrade.
Good thing is that visiting those places would give you a chance to glance at ...

A pack of monkeys from the University of San Francisco decided that one winter is all they needed to see the entire Asian continent in a train, so they packed their bags and left.
