Belgrade Bookshop, Cat’s Home

Ljubica is an extraordinary Belgrade cat. Her majesty’s home is the famous Belgrade bookshop „Plato“. And her favourite time to show off are the late hours. She usually dozes off during the day among the books, curled on a chair, or eating her late breakfast. I have never seen her twice on the same shelf, she doesn’t mind the crowds, and one has to be careful not to sit on a chair previously occupied by a silent resident.

As soon as the late comers begin pouring into the bookshop, she positions herself in the shop window, proudly showing a sign „Ljubicino mesto“ (Ljubica’s place) behind her. A cat in the window then attracts huge crowds, cameras, and curious passers-by, safely protected from the children’s hands.

But the story does not end here. Not long ago, a majority of the staff moved to another, smaller book , magazine and CD shop, conveniently located just opposite the fountain in Knez Mihajlova Street on one side and the Faculty of Letters, on the other. Clearly surprised by the sudden change and missing her old friends, Ljubica is now visiting both places. I would consider both her old safe haven „Plato“ and her new home, among non-official Belgrade attractions.
