What is the scariest country on earth? According to a Fort Wayne woman (a city in the U.S. state of Indiana), it’s Serbia. Staci put up an interesting blog post talking about her future trip to Serbia. In fact, when she was in high school, if you would have asked her where she dreamed of visiting, she would have said France. In college, if you had asked, she would have told you she dreamed of going to England. Now, she is planning to go to Serbia, “the scariest places I can think of in the world” she said. “Panic” is the word to describe how terrified she is thinking about her trip to Serbia. Here’s a short excerpt, but it’s worth reading the whole thing:
“God has taken away every reason I can think of for not following His call to Serbia. My every instinct is to panic whenever I think about it, but God has given my heart and mind a peace that is beyond all human reason. This is so far outside of my comfort zone that I can’t even see it from here, but I know at this point that if I don’t go, I will regret it for the rest of my life.
So, that is the plan. God willing, in July, I will board a plane to one of the scariest places I can think of in the world. A place where I have no knowledge of the language. A definite 9 for me on a scale of 1-10, and I will be trusting God to use me in a mighty way through the gifts and talents He has given me. It still amazes me.”
There are two key things to note in all of this. First, I agree with her. If she doesn’t go to Serbia, she will regret it for the rest of her life. Serbia is a beautiful country filled with incredible scenery, culture, heritage, and numerous opportunities for tourists and business travelers. That brings up the second key point. Times have changed! Being in Serbia is as safe as being in America. Serbia is blessed to have an incredibly low rate of street crime, with women and children able to walk home late at night in all neighborhoods. Don’t take it from me; take it from the thousands of foreigners who have made a visit to Serbia in their lifetime and have returned home having experienced a feeling of “life” like never before.
