Katarina Pantic is a teacher and an interpreter. Last year her husband decided to pursue his PhD programme in the USA. She decided to come with him. Unfortunately, the USA government awarded her with the most absurd function in her life – F2 visa! (not allowed to earn money) So, she’s a desperate Serbian housewife writing about her forced vacation in US.
If you are a Serb planning a US holiday, or an American planning to visit Serbia, Pantic’s blog is well worth a visit. Katarina Pantic quotes I.Stamenkovi? “America and Serbia are not too different countries, but two different planets.” And it seems to be true. Here’s a short excerpt, but it’s worth reading the whole blog!
“My introduction to the American culture was very unexpectedly picturesque. Thoroughly opposed to public toilets, I managed to avoid the airport toilet in Rome and the plane toilets in JAT and American Airlines. However, at Washington D.C. airport the nature got the best of me. After 10 hours of holding up, I had to go. Surprisingly enough, one of the biggest airports in the world has the worst toilet system in the world – one room for one person only and no other for, what it appeared to me at that point, miles. To make the bad thing worse, there was a huge line in front of every one of them. Oh, well… At least Serbs are used to queues, as well as jumping them, if necessary.”
