It never fails to amaze me the number of people who imagine Serbia as a war zone. The latest example comes from a story written by Radomir, a Serb who immigrated to the US when he was around seven years old. Before leaving for Serbia for a visit, he talked with a friend and asked him what he thought Serbia would look like:
He said he imagines Serbia as a war zone wasteland with rusting tanks and planes everywhere and with kids playing on those. I told him that it’s crazy to think so, but he insisted that there are kids playing on tanks in Serbia.
So, yes, it’s true that there are kids playing on tanks in Serbia — but only outside the Military Museum of Belgrade (located inside the walls of the historic Kalemegdan fortress).
