The World’s Best Sporting Nation Is Serbia

Yes, Serbia, despite a population of 10 something million is the world’s best sporting nation. We don’t have oil, but we have balls and the best players. Yesterday, World’s No. 1 Novak Đoković won his third Australia open title, beating Spain’s Rafael Nadal 3-2 in a dramatic and exhaustive six hour match in Melbourne. The same day, Serbian national water polo team won European championship in Holland, beating Montenegro 9-8. And again, the same day, the national handball team took the silver in the European Handball Championship final. Tens of thousands of fans (20.000 including me) gave a heroes’ welcome to their national sports heroes in front of Belgrade city hall on Monday evening in sub-zero temperatures. Thank you so much, so proud of you guys…

Submarines Have Fired Missiles At Belgrade!!

It never ceases to amaze me that despite massive (and biased) TV and media coverage of the ~~US-NATO humanitarian peace-keeping mission~~ aggression against Serbia in 1999, a guy (who visited Belgrade) is asking over at Blog-o-Scope this question: “Who launched the missiles on Serbia?”

Who launched the missiles on Serbia?
I remember being in Belgrade – Serbia and seeing massive holes in some of the buildings, apparently launched from coastal submarines, who was running this attack?

Three key things to note about this: (1) It’s great that this guy visited Serbia, and Belgrade. (2) It’s really sad to hear that after visiting Belgrade he does not know that Blgrade was bombed by US-NATO, and not by missiles launched from coastal submarines! (3) We still have a lot of work to do to educate people and change the image of Serbia (tell the truth).

A guy living in Belgrade uploaded to Youtube a video and wrote: “Standing on my balcony in Belgrade I realized why I love this city so much… The vibe on the streets during the last hours of 2011 is great!” That’s one of the reasons I love Belgrade too. There’s always someone playing something in the city. Music is literally in the air in Belgrade. Watch (and listen) his video below:

Christopher Rudder, who is in the Toronto based hip-hop group aLLeYNe & tEMuS, uploaded a great video taking about his recent trip to Belgrade. He also ended up writing a short text explaining why Belgrade seems to hide the most beautiful thing of all… It’s women:

So far I have yet to see another country in Europe beside Split which single handedly produces the most beautiful women I have ever seen. I swear there is a factory somewhere that is just pumping out hot girls every minute. It doesn’t matter where you are. You could be sitting in a coffee shop, eating dinner, at the beach or out for a walk. If you sit on a bench and just watch I promise you hot girl after hot girl will file down the street one after another.
